Brief info

Edward Tunstel earned B.S. and M.E. degrees in mechanical engineering from Howard University and the Ph.D. in electrical engineering from University of New Mexico. He is the CTO at Motiv Space Systems, Inc. since 2021, following several years as Associate Director for Robotics at Raytheon Technologies Research Center leading a group focused on robotic intelligence and human-collaborative robotics. During the prior decade he was a Senior Roboticist and Space Robotics & Autonomous Control Lead at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. He spent the preceding 18 years at NASA JPL where he was a Senior Robotics Engineer and Advanced Robotic Controls Group Lead focusing on Mars rover technology development and planetary missions. He maintains expertise in robotics and intelligent systems with research interests in autonomous mobile robot navigation, cooperative robotics, robotic systems engineering and AI-enabled autonomy, authoring over 180 publications including five books in these areas. He is a past President of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society, Fellow of the IEEE, and senior member of AIAA.
