Raafat R. Mansour is a Professor with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, University of Waterloo since January 2000 and has been holding Tier-1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) since 2010. He also held the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Industrial Research Chair (IRC) for two terms, from 2001 to 2005 and from 2006 to 2010. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo, he was with COM DEV, Cambridge, ON, Canada, from 1986 to 1999, where he held various technical and management positions with COM DEV’s Corporate Research and Development Department. He is the Founding Director of the Centre for Integrated RF Engineering (CIRFE) Facility at the University of Waterloo. He holds 46 patents and more than 450 refereed IEEE publications. He has coauthored a Wiley Book with over 2500 citations and has had seven chapters published in five other books.
Professor Mansour co-founded Integrated Circuit Scanning Probe Instruments (ICSPI Corp.), a university spin-off commercializing MEMS-based Atomic Force Microscopes (AFM), now distributed globally. He also co-founded AdHawk Microsystems, built upon CMOS-MEMS technology from his lab. AdHawk grew to employ over 40 staff in Waterloo and earned international recognition for its MEMS-based eye tracking sensors.
Dr. Mansour is Life Fellow of the IEEE, Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC). He was a recipient of the 2014 Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Engineering Medal for Research and Development and the 2019 IEEE Canada A. G. L. McNaughton Gold Medal Award.
