Dr. Khaled B. Letaief is a recognized leader in wireless communications, with research interests spanning artificial intelligence, edge computing, integrated sensing and communication, and 6G systems. His body of work includes over 700 papers, which have garnered more than 56,730 citations and an h-index of 105, alongside 15 inventions, including 11 U.S. patents.
He is a Member of the United States National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of IEEE and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Additionally, he is a member of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering. Dr. Letaief has been recognized as an ISI Highly Cited Researcher and was listed among the top 30 Most Influential Scholars in the AI 2000 Internet of Things in 2020.
His accolades include the 2024 Purdue University Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award and the 2022 IEEE Edwin Howard Armstrong Achievement Award, among many others. He has also excelled in teaching, receiving multiple awards, including the prestigious Michael G. Gale Medal for Distinguished Teaching.
Dr. Letaief's contributions extend to consulting for major organizations and serving as the founding Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, as well as IEEE Communications Society President. His academic career began at the University of Melbourne, and since 1993, he has been with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he held several leadership roles, including Chair Professor and Dean of Engineering. Under his guidance, HKUST’s School of Engineering significantly enhanced its global ranking and focus on societal engagement.
Dr. Letaief earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and received an honorary Ph.D. from the University of Johannesburg in 2022.
