Computational self-awareness is an emerging research field that studies systems, methods, techniques and algorithms that enable autonomous agent to sense its dynamic and uncertain environment, to learn internal models of its environment, to reason about its own and its environment’s states, and to adapt its behavior and structure dynamically to the changing environment. Self-awareness in a computational context is founded on advanced methods and algorithms from different disciplines including signal processing, machine learning, multi-agent systems, control engineering and decision making. This special issue aims at comprehensively covering fundamentals of self-awareness, techniques for single agents and collective systems as well as case studies.
